Brains over looks
Staying in New York you
come to realize the fast pace of the city, how hard it is to get the attention
of a taxi driver, the many decisions of food, the not so fun fact that your
hotel may only serve you three types of muffins in the morning, and even of course
the fact that this city never sleeps. New York Fashion Week is one of the biggest
events in New York and coming here to the shows year after year it’s a job for
me, not just to see what’s will be in stores in March. At a young age when you
want to follow your dreams in fashion you never know what the week is going to
bring to you. You always have to be ready for whatever the day brings and what
you’re going to do.
One thing I notice
during my days being here is what people are always wearing. Whether it’s in
September or February the weather defiantly has its differences. In September you’ll
notice so many people in crazy and bizarre outfits with layers and layers
during fashion week, while in February you’ll notice people dress more with
less clothing just to look good, feel comfortable, or just to get a picture
taken hoping to be in a magazine. Some people dress for comfort based on what
mother nature has to offer for that day while others dress to look good and
stand out. But overall it doesn’t really matter what you decide to take out of
your closet to put on. If you have a job and an opinion that matters that’s what
more people will care about then your outfit of the day. Your outfit of the day
is just an accessory to who you are. What you know and what you’re capable of
is actually the look that people look for.
It doesn’t just have to
end with style, I think you should start being weird or if you already have a
weird side then shine a light on it. Everyone is quirky and everyone is
different and you need to show this in yourself and/or your work. Look at
fashion PR Kelly Cutrone who wears all black, tells you how it is, and will be
honest with you. Some may find it rude, weird, or even unprofessional but the
way she carries herself she gets results. Start thinking about what makes you
weird and different and use it to your advantage. Don’t worry about what others
will think about it or if they will understand it, worry about how you can make
a difference because brains will always come before looks.
