Run This Town

There are many things to know about a fashion show, like who is sitting front row, how do you get a spot on the riser or even front of house, what goes on backstage, how much do models get paid and where are they from, and maybe even what happens while waiting for the show to start? Well there two things that are very important. One is the designer and two is the company who runs their show. Did I just say the company who runs the designer’s show? If you didn’t know every fashion show isn’t ran solely by the designer, even most of the time.
So let’s take Noon by Noor for an example and their show which happens to be ran by Kelly Cutrone, People’s Revolution. Noon by Noor hires Kelly and her company to help seat, produce, do line ups, work with models, get press, run events (if possible), and all that other fun stuff just for them! Pretty cool eh? Basically Noon by Noor, the designer can’t do everything on their own, so they hire Kelly to assist them. And it’s not just Kelly Cutrone who’s running around fashion week helping designers, it’s also other multiple PR companies that work in fashion and for certain designers.

PR companies are there to help and assist, but most importantly to invite. They are there to invite the biggest and the best to their designers show. The best press, the best media, the best seating, and most importantly the best front row. The bigger the company, the better the guest list, the better the row. Now once the day comes to for the fashion show (from the media and press perceptive) the show goes like this. You get your confirmation through email and follow instructions. “Head to Salon.” Okay, you head to Salon, talk to the PR at the front desk, name your affiliation and grab your pass. If there is a conflict and they can’t find you on the list, try and wait a little bit till the end passing out the passes or ask for the manager of the firm. If you have an email, you’re on the list a conflict shouldn’t happen.

Once you have your pass, you’re able to head to the front of the show and get ready. Before the shows build up slowly the PR company sometimes helps out the models during rehearsal, after rehearsal they begin to help seat others. And while all of this is going on they help out making sure everything backstage is going smoothly. Pretty much, the designer doesn’t do much of the work producing the show, sure he has say who he really wants to be there and what goes on. Other than that, it’s all ran by a public relations company. Something to think about next time you get your ticket.
